Independence

Zaylei is growing up.  I cannot believe she walked in all by herself this morning!!

Wednesday was hard but TODAY I cried a lot and almost ran over a family in the parking lot at UHA. Z wanted to walk in by herself. We went over everything 3 times. All 10 steps from the car to her chair at her table. (Take off seat belt, give me a hug and kiss, get back, get out, shut the door, walk to classroom, put lunchbox away, get folder out of backpack, hang backpack, put pillow and blanket in barbie bag, hang up, leave barbie in bag until nap time, go to chair)   I can't believe she didn't need me to walk her in. She wanted to go in by herself. Oh my!  I am really so proud of her being independent enough to walk in. She did look back at me as she was walking in to check where I was. I have taught her well. That is what I have had to keep telling myself. Given her enough confidence to do things on her own. All I could see when I drove away was me leaving her at college one day. Now I'm crying again. This is rough!
When we were talking about the steps from our car to the classroom we had the following conversation. At first I thought she wasn't going to give me a hug and kiss....I said, OK, after you get your seat belt off, give me a hug and kiss and then get your bag to get out.
She said "Seriously"
I said "Yes seriously,do you not want to give me a hug and kiss?"
She said "Yes I do, I was just teasing."
LOL...i was about to have a heart attack. I thought really? We are in kindergarten, she can't possibly already be to the stage where I embarrass her. If she is, then I am definitely walking her in and she can forget this independence stuff. LOL....thoughts a mommy has.

After school we had to get "SCHOOL SHOTS".   Very tragic.  The most tragic part was Zaylei finding out she would get the shots and then trying to get her in the building.  Once we got in the building she didn't cry anymore until she actually got the shots.  That crying only lasted a couple of minutes.  Getting her out of the car to go into the Doctor's Office was an adventure.  I would open the door and she would dart to the other side of the car, I walked around she darted to the other side of the car.  Finally I somehow got her to turn around and I ran around and got her out before she could move.  Fun times.  Then we sat outside on the curb talking about getting shots and mostly me trying to get her to stop crying enough to take her in.  She said, "I really don't want shots, let's just go home."  Well, that sounds lovely but we have to get shots.  So I bribed her with a trip to Toys R' Us.   Don't judge!  You may someday bribe your child.  It isn't my finest moment but I can't say I would like to go get shots either.  In fact, when I got a shot during my pregnancy I made my mother go with me....and I just may have made her take me to get ice cream after (or something)....so basically I could have been bribed as well...If I wasn't, I would have gladly been open to it.  Zaylei refuses to remove the band-aids.  I'm not sure how long we will have to keep them on.  She may let them rot off.  I really think she just wanted to show her class and have them feel sorry for her.  So I apologize in advance to any mother that has to take their child for shots if Zaylei scares them to death.

Here are a couple of photos at Toys R' Us.  The silly ride ate my quarter.

We also called Pippie before the shots to get some back up moral support.  Lola just had shots a couple of days prior so we tried to tell Zaylei how brave Lola was.  After shots, we had to go by Pippie's to see them and get a prize.  I love these photos...Lola is peeking over the baby gate, just jabbering away.  I remember when Zaylei couldn't see over the baby gate...now look at her.
Zaylei wanted to take this one so we could see how tall she was compared to Lola!
