The Year was 1955

I just want to record this for Zaylei to read someday in the future.  It all seems so absurd now and i can't imagine in 20 more years and beyond.  I think the lesson we learn is that we do adapt and keep up.

Boy, have times changed!!!!
The Year Was 1955
Did you hear the post office is
Thinking about charging 7 cents
just to mail a letter?

If they raise the minimum wage
To $1.00, nobody will be able to
hire outside help at the store.

When I first started driving, who
Would have thought gas would
someday cost 25 cents a gallon? Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

I'm afraid to send my kids to the

Movies any more. Ever since they
let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

I read the other day where some

Scientist thinks it's possible to put
a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas .

Did you see where some baseball

Player just signed a contract for
$50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.

I never thought I'd see the day

All our kitchen appliances would
be electric. They're even making electric typewriters now.

It's too bad things are so tough

Nowadays. I see where a few
married women are having to work to make ends meet.

It won't be long before young

Couples are going to have to hire
someone to watch their kids so they can both work.

I'm afraid the Volkswagen car
Is going to open the door to a
whole lot of foreign business.

Thank goodness I won't live to

See the day when the Government
takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.

The fast food restaurant is

Convenient for a quick meal,
but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

There is no sense going on short
Trips anymore for a weekend. It
costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

No one can afford to be sick

Anymore. At $15.00 a day in
the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.

If they think I'll pay 30 cents
for a haircut, forget it.

Shopping and A Weekend with Mamaw

AUGUST 25, 2012

This weekend Mom and I went shopping for her birthday in Bowling Green.  We had a blast.  We decided to spend the day going to antique stores.  We started out at Lulu's fine antiques and consignment and children's clothes.  We went to 5 antique stores on Broadway in Bowling Green.  Then we had lunch at Mariah's.  It was yummy.  After lunch we headed to several consignment stores and found lots of cute clothes for the kiddos.  Mom ended up finding a store she really liked and got several things for herself.  All this shopping was making us hungry again so we headed to Chaney's for ice cream.  We were fueled up now and headed to TJ Maxx.  Around 9:30 we were forced to stop shopping since everything was closing so we decided to get dinner at Cheddar's.  After dinner we headed home.  It was a really great day!!!!  Zaylei stayed with Mamaw Saturday night and went to church with her.  Below are some pictures of her at Mamaw's.

Matt headed to training in Cinncinatti for his new job with Buffalo Wings & Rings on Saturday and returned home on Friday.  It was a long week but we all made it.

During this week Matt's jeep was in the shop so I was driving the work truck and Matt had my Navigator.  On the way home from Cinncinatti the Navigator decided to have troubles of its own.  So both our cars were in the shop at the same time.  How frustrating but we are so lucky to have vehicles to drive.  Hopefully we will have both our cars back soon and get back to normal.

Independence

Zaylei is growing up.  I cannot believe she walked in all by herself this morning!!

Wednesday was hard but TODAY I cried a lot and almost ran over a family in the parking lot at UHA. Z wanted to walk in by herself. We went over everything 3 times. All 10 steps from the car to her chair at her table. (Take off seat belt, give me a hug and kiss, get back, get out, shut the door, walk to classroom, put lunchbox away, get folder out of backpack, hang backpack, put pillow and blanket in barbie bag, hang up, leave barbie in bag until nap time, go to chair)   I can't believe she didn't need me to walk her in. She wanted to go in by herself. Oh my!  I am really so proud of her being independent enough to walk in. She did look back at me as she was walking in to check where I was. I have taught her well. That is what I have had to keep telling myself. Given her enough confidence to do things on her own. All I could see when I drove away was me leaving her at college one day. Now I'm crying again. This is rough!
When we were talking about the steps from our car to the classroom we had the following conversation. At first I thought she wasn't going to give me a hug and kiss....I said, OK, after you get your seat belt off, give me a hug and kiss and then get your bag to get out.
She said "Seriously"
I said "Yes seriously,do you not want to give me a hug and kiss?"
She said "Yes I do, I was just teasing."
LOL...i was about to have a heart attack. I thought really? We are in kindergarten, she can't possibly already be to the stage where I embarrass her. If she is, then I am definitely walking her in and she can forget this independence stuff. LOL....thoughts a mommy has.

After school we had to get "SCHOOL SHOTS".   Very tragic.  The most tragic part was Zaylei finding out she would get the shots and then trying to get her in the building.  Once we got in the building she didn't cry anymore until she actually got the shots.  That crying only lasted a couple of minutes.  Getting her out of the car to go into the Doctor's Office was an adventure.  I would open the door and she would dart to the other side of the car, I walked around she darted to the other side of the car.  Finally I somehow got her to turn around and I ran around and got her out before she could move.  Fun times.  Then we sat outside on the curb talking about getting shots and mostly me trying to get her to stop crying enough to take her in.  She said, "I really don't want shots, let's just go home."  Well, that sounds lovely but we have to get shots.  So I bribed her with a trip to Toys R' Us.   Don't judge!  You may someday bribe your child.  It isn't my finest moment but I can't say I would like to go get shots either.  In fact, when I got a shot during my pregnancy I made my mother go with me....and I just may have made her take me to get ice cream after (or something)....so basically I could have been bribed as well...If I wasn't, I would have gladly been open to it.  Zaylei refuses to remove the band-aids.  I'm not sure how long we will have to keep them on.  She may let them rot off.  I really think she just wanted to show her class and have them feel sorry for her.  So I apologize in advance to any mother that has to take their child for shots if Zaylei scares them to death.

Here are a couple of photos at Toys R' Us.  The silly ride ate my quarter.

We also called Pippie before the shots to get some back up moral support.  Lola just had shots a couple of days prior so we tried to tell Zaylei how brave Lola was.  After shots, we had to go by Pippie's to see them and get a prize.  I love these photos...Lola is peeking over the baby gate, just jabbering away.  I remember when Zaylei couldn't see over the baby gate...now look at her.
Zaylei wanted to take this one so we could see how tall she was compared to Lola!

Zaylei Happenings 8-16-12

Zaylei started school yesterday.  Kindergarten!!  They have a word of the day each day and learn a few words each week.  Yesterday their first word was "RED"  They learned to spell it, recognize it, colored a sheet with the words red in a puzzle, etc.  This morning just before we woke her up she was talking in her sleep and said "r  e  d".  She spelled RED in her sleep.  She is like her mommy.  When she gets something in her head and works on it a lot she dreams about it.  No doubt she knows how to spell it!

After this while she was getting ready for school, she went over to check her new chart.  This chart is divided into morning and evening.  She has to complete the list of things on the left before school and the list of things on the right after school and before bedtime.  As she was checking over her chart to make sure she had completed everything she says "OK Chart, I will wash my face and hands"  Hillarious.  As if the Chart were yelling at her.  We all laughed and then she washed her hands and face.

She was excited to go to school this morning.  We are so happy.  We were a little worried she would not like school this year as we had a bit of a rough time last year.  She likes her teachers and seems to really enjoy being there.  I didn't have to pry her off of me this morning!  That is a step in the right direction for sure!!

Here is a picture of her this morning and her chart.

AWW, my sweet girl before her 2nd day of school!!
This last picture is added because my sister blew up my Facebook.  After not commenting on a single photo yesterday of Zaylei's 1st day of school I harassed her.  She made up for it!!
Love you Pippie!!

Zaylei's 1st Day of Kindergarten!!

Wow I can't believe my baby is ready for Kindergarten!!!!  She has been working on Hooked on Phonics with Mamaw and Mom all summer.  She is reading and we couldn't be more proud of her.

Her teacher is Mrs. Betty Holmes and the aide is Mrs. Vanessa.  She seems to like both of them.  She is very excited to go back for the 2nd day and had a GREAT 1st day.  We are really excited about that!!  She was really excited to see her friends.  She has missed them over the summer.  She has mostly talked about seeing Ava and Luke.

Here are a few photos from her first day in Kindergarten!!

We made a sign for the 1st day of school.  We had to take Merliah with us.  She is a mermaid and then her tail turns into a surf board and she is human.  Very cool.  Zaylei bought this with money from Big Daddy.
 Hold it up high girl!!
 And just Zaylei...
Zaylei at her table.  She had to cross her legs like a big girl.  So at ease with herself!
We took gifts for Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Vanessa.  Hand sanitizer.  We added the cute little labels.  The back says "You are my sunshine" because there is a big sunshine painted on the wall in the classroom and because Zaylei loves that song!

Zaylei on UHA Website

At the beginning of the school year a photo was taken of Zaylei and a Senior student Garnett Bruce.  The photo was used for publicity and marketing items for UHA.  UHA asked me if I cared if they used Zaylei for more marketing items.  I said "No".  Today when I went to the UHA website looking for something this was the first thing I saw.  How sweet!!  What potential!
